Minister Mahler speaks on reports of shortages of rooms in the Old Capital

And while that issue is being looked at, another is the report that there has been a shortage of hotel rooms in Belize City. The possibility of that, especially as the tourism industry heads into its high season, is problematic. Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler conceded that indeed it is a concern, but investments to increase accommodations are welcome.

Anthony Malher, Minister of Tourism & Diaspora Relations: “There are times when there may not be enough rooms here in Belize City. We’ve had that in the past but that’s something that we’re looking at seriously and we’re going to rectify that in terms of how we approach the build out of the hotel plan. What this forum today is about telling the world that Belize is open for business. We’re creating an enabling environment whereby our private sector, whether it be public or private sector partnership or private sector driven or public sector driven, that we have the enabling environment for our business to thrive.”
