The Minister of Health, Pablo Marin, in the House of Representatives announced that one person from within the Ministry of Health’s office has tested positive for Covid-19. The Minister highlighted that we are living in unprecedented times and that the community must play its part to flatten the curve. He indicated that those within the ministry are being swabbed and tested.
Hon. Jugo Pat, Minister of Health: “Today Madam Speaker we got the news that someone in my ministry has the COVID and the people are all afraid but as the Director of Health Services mentioned , were they wearing their masks ? Were they practicing social distancing ? Were they washing their hands? We need to act as if everyone has COVID. We need to do that and again Madam Speaker and I will beg from the opposition this is not about politics. All of us have to join together to combat this COVID. I got a letter- or a letter was put on Facebook from the BMDA stating that because they didn’t have PPEs, they didn’t have their proper gear – the majority of them were from the private hospital and most of them that got infected by the tracking, by the mapping that we have done was from outside of the health system. So Madam Speaker w have to realize and I’m asking the opposition again for you not to play politics with the health of our people. The Ministry of Health, the healthcare providers are doing everything they can and they are tired of all the work and the time they have to go through.”
He also stated that Belizeans are now in the front line of the pandemic and they must do their part in stopping the spread of the virus. The minister ended by stating that the virus is not about politics but rather to protect the citizens of Belize.
Hon. Jugo Pat, Minister of Health: “We ask for the people that get swabbed to remain in their house until when you get the results. And we’re asking more than that if you get your results that are negative and you know that you’ve been around people that have the virus to please stay at home at least the fourteen days that we’re expected because we have seen cases that until the fourteenth day the positive comes out but these people or some of the people – in particular it happened in three occasions that I heard- when they were calling the person in Corozal in particular the person was already in Belmopan with two other people. I got a call from the bank when the person came out there was a big commotion inside the bank and this person was from the construction company and they’re asking “What are you doing here?” and he said “I don’t have a problem I got swabbed.” “Has the results come out ?” “The results hasn’t come out as yet.”So Madam Speaker we’re pleading to those people out there that you know that you’re being swabbed to stay home. We need to protect our people.”
Minister Marin explained that health personnel are working tirelessly to keep everyone safe.
