Another issue that the Ministry of Health is dealing with is the recent discovery of fraudulent vaccination cards in circulation. As we reported yesterday the fake vaccine cards are being sold at three hundred dollars each and the matter has now become a police investigation. Minister Chebat describes the scheme as a major disservice to Belize and those found guilty will not only be fined but confined to prison as well.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness: “We are very much concerned about it. We have identified at least two or three areas in the country where this is happening. We have gotten our hands on some of the fraudulent cards which I have passed on to the Commissioner of Police. They are investigating. We have made amendments to the law to make sure that whoever is found guilty will be penalized in the strictest of ways. The people who are doing this are doing a disservice to our country, they are undermining the entire population of this country and they’re undermining the economy of this country and so I think that they must bear the brunt of the law if found to be guilty of doing this.”
Police Commissioner Chester Williams says they have two suspects under the radar.
