UDP Chairman and Senator Michael Peyrefitte weighed in on the proposed salary cut, saying that government is just not being creative or innovative enough to close the deficit.  Minister Kareem Musa weighed in on Peyrefitte’s statement saying ….. here is how that response went.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries: “It is quite easy for Lord Michael Peyrefitte to pronounce from his reinforced throne, quite easy for him to pronounce and have these declarations from his reinforced throne but at the same time he has to remember and echo the words of his Prime Minister Dean Barrow who said that whoever comes after him will have the most difficult time in office. Dean Barrow recognized that I don’t understand why it is that Michael Peyrefitte is now playing lost as they say in the streets, he’s playing lost. And so when you’re asking about new growth industries that is something that can be one of the avenues for success for this country. We see where the great United States has been taking advantage of the fact of the new cannabis industry and that is something we want to capitalize on as well. So we have to create these new avenues and if you look at just the first hundred days of our administration that is exactly what we’ve been doing in agriculture new innovative ways to get the economy going again, diversifying our economy that is what PlanBelize is all about and we plan to execute that.”
