During today’s interview with Minister Balderamos-Garcia, she also condemned nightclub owners who allow minors to enter the establishment, even if it is done unknowingly. This comes following the incident of a teenager who reported that she was drugged and raped after a night in the club. Minister Balderamos-Garcia says that business owners need to do more to ensure that their establishment promotes the safety of their patrons.
Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of Human Development: “We heard of an incident that took place the other day at Eruption Night Club and I mean there are too many issues there man. If you cannot run a nightclub and make sure that underage people are not in there then you noh business to have a license and that is my strong view. That is my strong view. Now that may not have fully protected the young lady who was violated but it is contributing to the abusers when you allow underage people into a drinking facility, putting it that way.”
Reporter: When it comes to clubs across the board they have this notion now that yes it’s busy, we know sometimes it’s busy and they’re like this person doesn’t look under age, this person looks underage so we’ll check their ID, what would be your take ?
Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of Human Development: “My reaction is that you have to card people. You have to card people. I was thirty and they were carding me in a night club somewhere in the Caribbean or the states or something because I looked young, you know ? I’m just kidding but no no you have to card everybody and there has to be proper security, proper fire exit. I think our – and I make this appeal to our night club owners and bars, restaurants etc let us do the things in the correct way. We have to protect our communities. Have your fire exit. Make sure that you have your security. Make sure you don’t allow in the underage, those are the kinds of things that we can do to develop our country and to make sure that everybody is protected.”
