Minister of Sports Plans to Launch Regional App for Sports Sector

Minister of Sports, Rodwell Ferguson, is looking to launch a regional app that will benefit the sports sector.  According to Ferguson, he will be doing this in his capacity as the President of the  Consecade Sports Council for Central America.  He noted that he will also be seeking the support from Belize’s Cabinet.

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Sports: “If you can recall, I was elected the President of Consecade for Central America and I’m the Vice President for the Americas and I already spoke to the Minister of Sports in Panama who is the general president and I’m now developing an app to figure out how we can raise money through the region for sports for the entire region. I said I will take it to Cabinet very shortly for their approval. Once I get their approval we are going to launch it up for the entire region to raise funds. It’s going to be a simple app. We’re asking each person if they want to contribute a dollar US a month towards sports and we’re going to target over half a billion people within the region from South America all the way to Canada. And so the Minister of Sports for Panama was really appreciative of the app. They are going to discuss with other ministers and launch it. And we are saying then if you are going to contribute, then hopefully at the end of each month in each country there should be an incentive for at least 5 or 10 people every month to win something from the contribution that they made. But we are saying if 100 million people contribute, that’s 100 million dollars for the region.”

Minister Ferguson was named president in May 2023.
