Minister Oscar Requena Responds to UDP’s Criticisms
And doubling down on Tracy Taegar Panton was Toledo West Area Representative Oscar Requena. Requena is the Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Local Government, and Labor. He says that the UDP’s “doom and gloom” characteristics are a misrepresentation of the reality on the ground.
Oscar Requena, Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Local Government and Labour: “Madam Speaker when we listen to the Leader of the Opposition yesterday he wanted us, he wanted the Belizean people to imagine a picture of doom and gloom since this new PUP government took office. He went on to ramble all over the place and as my good friend the member for Freetown said he did not have any sense of direction but rather to a great extent was making up figures and statistics and he must be called out for that Madam Speaker. And I want to remind him and I want to remind the Belizean people that it was none other than his father who infamously said that he was sorry for the next government that would take over office. In fact he said and I quote “I weep for the Belizean people.” because he knew the mess, the disaster that the UDP created for thirteen long dreaded years across this country Madam Speaker. It was thirteen years of the worst corruption, incompetence, and “Barrowgance” that this country saw imposed by the UDP. Madam Speaker the members on the other side should be the last ones to speak about corruption and that this country is not moving forward, should be speaking about massive borrowing, when they have the record Madam Speaker of spending billions of dollars on projects that were failed , that did not benefit this country, that did not provide the opportunity to grow this economy.”
