In July, Cabinet received an update from the Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform, Henry Charles Usher, on the redistricting exercise and urged that a plan be finalized and presented to Cabinet. The issue for the need for redistricting goes back many years. In 2019, the Belize Peace Movement (BPM) brought a claim against the Government of Belize with the hopes that the Supreme Court would order that the exercise takes place. Their application to the court was on the grounds that a redistricting exercise was crucial especially for constituencies that have a large number of registered voters. For the elected Area Representative for Toledo West, he has twenty-eight villages in his division. Love News spoke with him on the issue of redistricting which he said he would welcome.
For comparison, Fort George, represented by Minister Henry Charles Usher, is the smallest constituency with one thousand eight hundred seventy-six voters at the last election. Meanwhile, the largest area was Stann Creek West, represented by Minister Rodwell Ferguson, which tallied nine thousand eight hundred sixty-four voters.
