Minister Rodwell Ferguson Conducts Bus Inspections as Upgrade Deadline Approaches

The deadline for bus owners to upgrade their fleet is fast approaching, and the Department of Transport seems serious about improving the conditions for commuters.  Today, the Minister of Transport, Rodwell Ferguson, joined a team from his ministry, to conduct inspections of commuter buses to see if improvements are being made.  It was early this year that Cabinet agreed on having public transportation improve across the country.  Minister Ferguson spoke with the media from the Marine Parade where the inspections were being carried out.

Love News understands that the minister met with representatives of the Belize Bus Owners Cooperatives (BBOC), Westline, James Bus Company and the Belmopan Busito Association where all parties agreed that the upgrading bus standards is necessary for modernizing the transport industry. Secretary at Belize Bus Owners Association, Ewart Metzgen spoke about the efforts made by the bus operators to meet today’s requirements.

The Minister of Transport and the bus operators will discuss whether price fairs will be increased because of the upgrades.
