Minister Rodwell Ferguson gives update on Maroni Leal situation

Chief Executive Officer, Marconi Leal Junior for the Ministry of Transport remains on vacation leave after having differences with Minister Rodwell Ferguson. Love News sought an update from the minister to see if CEO Leal will be replaced.

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Transport: “I always say I can work with anybody that is given to me by the Prime Minister of this country. And there are certain principles and standards and goals that I abide by and maybe over the last couple of months the CEO and myself were not seeing eye to eye in certain circumstances and so it’s up to the Prime Minister now if he’s going to give me a new CEO or whatever the case may be but I know for almost a month now the CEO is basically on vacation.”

With Minister Ferguson saying that the decision will be made by Prime Minister John Briceno, we found out from Briceno what his intentions are with CEO Leal. Here is his response.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “I think that’s an overblown issue. I don’t think there’s a real issue between both gentlemen but the issue is that CEO Leal remains as the CEO and he will continue to be a CEO in our government. I will tell you that CEO Leal will remain as a CEO for the government of Belize.”

Reporter: Sir but is he going to move over to another ministry ? And then you bring in a new CEO for the Ministry of Transport.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “Well that has not been finalized. That may happen but we don’t know as yet. CEO Leal has been on holiday I mean he hasn’t had a holiday literally from the day he was appointed as  CEO. It’s something that I have to discuss with him and the minister and certainly we have a lot of working coming so we do know that he will remain a part of the team.”
