The Republic of China (Taiwan) latest contribution came in the form of sixty thousand US dollars earmarked for trade development. It was an initiative that both Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) found satisfactory; the Federation of Cruise Tourism Association of Belize, FECTAB, however, is not too pleased as they feel excluded as they noted in a press conference last week. Love News asked Minister of Trade and Development, Tracy Taegar-Panton, to respond to FECTAB’s concerns.
Hon. Tracy Taegar-Panton – Minister of Trade and Development: “I am not understanding why FECTAB would be so upset. They have never approached us about this matter. This was a matter that was born out of BELTRAIDE in an interest to try and find strategic investors from Taiwan who may be interested in Belizean Tourism product. We haven’t even gotten into planning out the details. We haven’t even met some of these strategic investors yet. I think they may have gotten a little ahead of themselves in terms of their concerns but certainly one of the reasons we even pursued these findings is so that we can pursue our local business owners in the tourism sector.”
The exchanges are expected to attract more investors to Belize and the first one is planned for May 4 to May 11.
