The official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Economic Transformation and the Ministry of Health and Wellness took place earlier today. The MoU was formally signed by CEO Carlos Pol, representing the Ministry of Economic Transformation, and CEO Dr. Julio Sabido, on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Wellness. This agreement is designed to formalize and strengthen the crucial working relationship between the two ministries. Under the terms of the MoU, the Ministry of Economic Transformation will serve as the Principal Recipient of the Global Fund Cycle 7 Grant. Concurrently, the Ministry of Health and Wellness has been designated as the key ministry responsible for the validation of HIV Programmatic Data, Standard Operating Procedures, and Health Policies. This collaborative effort underscores Belize’s commitment to strengthening its health system, particularly in the fight against HIV. The ultimate goal of this partnership is to work towards the ambitious “95-95-95” targets, which aim for 95% of all people living with HIV to know their HIV status, 95% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection to receive sustained antiretroviral therapy, and 95% of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy to have viral suppression. The MoU is expected to enhance data accuracy, streamline operational procedures, and ensure the effective implementation of health policies, all vital components in achieving these global health objectives.
