Ministry of Blue Economy Grants $11.5 Million for Marine Conservation

The Ministry of Blue Economy is pumping 11.5 million dollars into the preservation and conservation of Belize’s marine resources. The ministry is providing monetary grants to 12 non-governmental organizations to enhance their work in marine conservation. The project titled the “Belize Fund for A Sustainable Future” is a part of the country’s commitment to safeguarding its sea space under the Blue Bond agreement. CEO of the Ministry of The Blue Economy, Kennedy Carillo, explained that the overarching goal is to support the organizations to ensure Belize’s Blue Economy remains vibrant. 

Executive Director of the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association, Valdemar Andrade, says the grant will greatly aid the organization in its conservation efforts. He explained that the funds will be used to identify management intervention strategies.
