The Ministry of Education is looking to retrain and retool teachers with funding from the Millennium Challenge Corporation. With the rapidly evolving technology and an increasing reliance on artificial intelligence, educators are now forced to up their teaching skills and strategy. According to Minister of State for Education, Dr. Louis Zabaneh, these trainings are in the pipeline and will significantly aid teachers in getting through to the students of this generation and those ahead.

Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of State (MoECST): “That we’re embarked upon already and thanks to the people of the United States for the funding through the Millennium Challenge Corporation. A big part of that is going to be on training of teachers because that we have identified as a need, especially since competency-based education requires a whole new philosophy, a whole new way of thinking, a whole new mindset. And so these are some of the things that we’re excited about. This retraining that we’re talking about is extensive, expansive, because it means that all of our teachers who may not have had that experience now will have to retool themselves and be able to meet the children they are and communicate in that language. The language that they understand. In such a way that they can learn these important concepts and do it in an exciting way, right?”
It was back in September that the Briceno Administration signed the Belize Compact with MCC for 125 million dollars. The money has been earmarked to address the binding constraints of low-quality education by equitablyincreasing the number of post-primary graduates with the skills relevant to labor market demands. A portion of it is also allotted for the energy sector by lowering the wholesale cost of electricity in real terms.
