When the vaccine does arrive in the country, the Ministry of Health and Wellness will roll out its vaccination plan. A detailed plan to realize an effective and successful vaccination rollout has been created by the Ministry of Health and Wellness. More of that rollout plan is expected to be shared next week. The ministry’s vaccination roadmap was not conceived without any consultation or advice. The National Immunization Technical Advisory Group was created to assist in the process. It’s an independent committee that will review evidence on COVID-19 and make recommendations to the ministry. The committee is comprised of seven health professional including Dr. Marcello Coyi.
Dr.Marcello Coyi, Member, National Immunization Advisory Group: “We are an independent group, it’s seven of us and we are dealing mostly with the vaccination plan. In terms of what vaccines we should get, how safe it is and to advise the ministry in it’s roll out but we are not an implementing body we are an advisory group. So it means that it’s not the final decider so the Minister of Health with their technical people can take the advice, they can accept it, they can modify it and we don’t know what the final product is going to be but I think there are certain things that we would say we would want them to accept particularly the safety of the vaccines that should not be used unless they have been approved by a strict regulatory body. There are other things that the ministry may change; who will get it first, who will get it last but certain things are non negotiable in a way.”
