Ministry of Health Ends Inspections for Nutraceutical Products

Over the counter supplements will no longer be under scrutiny by the Ministry of Health.  Starting December 1, the ministry’s licensing and accreditation unit will no longer be inspecting or licensing stores that specialize in nutraceutical products.  These nutraceutical products include, but are not limited to vitamins, minerals, dietary supplements or any other product derived from either plant or animal.  With the absence of inspections, however, store owners are still expected to secure their products in accordance with the manufacturers’ stipulations, and are prohibited from repackaging the products or relabeling the containers.  The ministry did stress that this decision to ease on inspections is in relation to oral and topical preparations only.  When it comes to injectable products those are to be done exclusively by licensed facilities.
