These GeneXpert machines will allow for laboratory personnel to receive results in a timely manner and will allow for early isolation of COVID-19 cases and it will also allow us to stem the transmission of this deadly virus. These GeneXpert machines will also allow us to decentralize molecular testing at regional hospitals and will make a difference in the timely delivery of SarsCov2 testing results. The Pan-American Health Organization which is a specialized international health agency for the Americas has been one of Belize’s most valuable regional partners in the COVID-19 response and we thank Dr.Jack for her unseizing support to the Ministry of Health and the Government of Belize and its people. The technical and financial support over the past decades from the PanAmerican Health Organization has made an impact on improving and protection our people’s health especially during this pandemic. I also want to take this opportunity to express to the WHO and the European Union our sincerest gratitude for supporting Belize especially during this pandemic. The work of Mr.Nicholas Hansman as team leader of the European Union Technical Office in Belize has been remarkable and needs to be commended. I know that he is not present with us today but I ask that you kindly extend to him my warmest gratitude on behalf of the Government and people of Belize. The Ministry of Health and Wellness also expresses sincere gratitude to laboratory personnel at the Central Medical Lab for their commitment and sacrifice apart from the COVID-19 safety protocols and vaccination I cannot overemphasize the importance of testing in our fight against COVID-19. You are our frontline workers and you’re weathering this storm and you remain steadfast in your efforts to ensure that our people receive their COVID-19 results. Our Government and people are indebted to you.”

Today PAHO and WHO will also be donating these small GeneXpert machine it’s a four model. This one will be deployed to a region to support the decentralization of the TB and HIV viral load among other tests. This is part of strengthening the capacity of the national laboratory networks and is in response to a request for the National Aids Commission to procure this equipment as part of the national strategy to control the HIV and the TB in the country. We thank PAHO and WHO or this continued technical cooperation and support. So without further ado let me say thank you very much to the European Union and PAHO WHO for this unwavering support to our country.”
