On a global scale, Belize currently ranks twenty-one out of thirty-three countries in Latin America and the Caribbean in confirmed cases of the coronavirus. Today’s Ministry of Health’s daily COVID-19 report may change that statistic as the number of active Covid-19 cases in Belize is slowly decreasing. The report’s cut-off time is one p.m. today and includes the new cases uncovered over a 24-hour period. Claudette Dakers Norales of the Public Relations Unit in the ministry presented the nation’s cumulative data.
Claudette Dakers Norales, Public Relations Unit, Ministry of Health and Wellness: “A total of 1,579 samples were tested, out of this 9 samples have resulted positive for COVID-19. There are 118 individuals newly under investigation. There are 12 new recoveries to report. Today we also report that 7 infected persons are hospitalized. Unfortunately three of these individuals are being treated at the intensive care unit. There are no new deaths to report. The cumulative report we are presenting is from March 2020 when we had our first case. The new total of active cases now stands at 151. These are those persons who have been confirmed and are within the time frame to transmit the virus. To date 82,274 samples have been tested nationally. Out of this 12,264 samples have resulted positive for COVID-19. A total of 314 deaths have been reported but we are pleased to report that there are 11,799 total recoveries.”
The most recent data from the Ministry of Health indicates that the Stann Creek and Belize District are where the majority of Covid-19 cases have been detected.
