Ministry of Infrastructure Mobilizes for National Disaster Response

Also mobilizing for the hurricane watch, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) is mobilizing as a key agency in the national disaster response framework.  Chief Engineer Coordinator, Evondale Moody says the Ministry is having technical preparedness meetings and taking stock of its resources. Teams from the ministry are getting ready to deploy as part of the country’s flood response.

Evondale Moody, Chief Engineer, MIDH: “For us at the Ministry of Infrastructure we are preparing in terms of our equipment and materials. We need to have those in place in terms of culverts if we have any washout we need to have those situated at different locations along the highways. My plan is to meet with the Minister and the CEO this morning and to see how we could strategize to have heavy equipment located at different locations along all the highways just in case because we don’t know where the hurricane will end up. And so we just want to make sure that we are prepared for that in terms of what is coming this Friday.”

Love News understands that the Ministry has been working to assess damages to bridges and roads in the south due to heavy rains in mid-June and assessments in northern Belize due to severe flooding over the weekend
