Ministry of Public Utilities Expands Electricity Access in Rural Communities

It is the year 2023, and there are still over 20 communities within Belize that do not have access to electricity, something that the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-governance is trying to change. Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry, Jose Urbina, explained today that the Ministry recently made electricity accessible to three villages in the Toledo District, as part of ongoing efforts to assist rural communities.

Urbina said that the Ministry is also providing portable power generation kits to some villages, to hold them over until the infrastructure can be put in place to connect them to the national grid. He noted that access to electricity is a major point of concern in the National Energy Policy 2023 to 2040, which is currently in the final stages of completion.
