The Ministry of Tourism is pushing to build capacity within the tourism sector by making training more accessible to those working in the industry. The Ministry has partnered with Florida International University to make diploma courses Tourism and Hospitality available and is now offering scholarships through a collaboration with the Ministry of Education. CEO in the Ministry of Tourism, Nicole Solano, explained how this will enhance the tourism sector.
Nicole Solano, CEO, Ministry of Tourism: “Capacity building is an important part of what we want to do. We need to train the tourism industry and all of the people that work in tourism. As you know during COVID a lot of people moved away from the tourism industry into other sectors like the BPO sector so for us training and development is important and we have been able to partner with the Ministry of Education along with Florida International University to put together a program. So that is something that will begin in July. The pre courses that are required for the diploma program and anybody that wants or feels that they want to get additional information on that can contact that the tourism board and then they will provide all the information on how to provide for the scholarships in that regard.”
There will be two cohorts under this initial program, one running from June 20 to the 21st, and the other running from July 20 to the 21st.
