The Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations expects this year’s tourism numbers to surpass pre-pandemic levels. In 2020, the industry was brought to its knees, but since the pandemic subsided, tourism arrivals have been on an upward trend. Last year, the ministry was able to attract new airlines to the country out of the United States, and according to Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations Anthony Mahler, Belize may soon be welcoming flights from Europe.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations: “That has been a tremendous success for us. Most of the airlines coming will improve capacity into the country. We should have another flight from South West out of Baltimore. We’re close to one out of San Francisco and we’re very very close to one out of Europe but it would be premature for me to say anything about that. With our aggressiveness and the expansion airlift and the things that we want to do through the borders and through the marine ports we believe that we will see a lot more tourists coming this year. We will probably reach back to where we were or surpass it somewhat.”
Mahler added that the BTB’s new “Grab Life” marketing campaign is expected to aid in boosting tourism arrivals.
