Ministry of Transport Implements New Safety Regulations for Holiday Season

The Ministry of Transport has introduced new safety regulations and will be enforcing them this holiday season. At the start of the month, the ministry moved to mandate the wearing of seatbelts, prohibiting the use of electronic devices while driving, and the use of speed guns by the traffic department. Minister of Transport, Rodwell Ferguson says that the ministry hopes to collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure the roads remain free of incidents this holiday weekend.

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport:I just talked to the new CTO this morning because when people are on the highway they do their own thing so I want them to collaborate with customs, police and traffic to do checkpoints at night so we can try to mitigate the amount of accidents. Because very unfortunate over the last three weeks when four people died on the Humming Bird Highway and four died on the western highway it’s very sad. We are doing our best to mitigate so they will be out there practically 24/7 to try to mitigate the amount of accidents so I support it a hundred percent.”
