Ministry of Youth and Sports to launch the Belize Western Institute

The Ministry of Youth and Sports will be opening the doors to the Belize Western Institute in the Mountain Pine Ridge area next month. The institution will provide training in vocational skills to at-risk young men from across the country. The project is part of the government’s multi-sectoral approach to crime and will provide the services free of charge. On Wednesday, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Rodwell Ferguson, visited the family of slain teen Dane Matute in Roaring Creek Village, to discuss the need to end gun violence. Ferguson says the institution will assist in molding many at-risk young men into productive citizens.
