After minor grazed, Parents say No Police, No Medical

The sounds of gunshots rang out on Kraal Road in Belize City last night. According to some, at least 18 gunshots were heard in an area of the neighborhood. It is unclear if there was a specific target or if the area itself was the target. However, a female minor was grazed. And it seems that the case will go nowhere fast, as the parents have been uncooperative to receive medical attention or making a report to the police.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, OC, Crimes Investigation Branch: “Yes they had a shooting last night but we have been trying to work with the person that was grazed, its a minor however the parents are reluctant to make an official report to the police and that is what we are working with them at this moment. Yes sometimes last night after 7:30 or minutes before 8 there were several shots fired in the Kraal Road area and as a result of that 18 shots being fired a minor was grazed to the right side of her shoulder. She as issued a medical form as what is police protocol but they refused to seek medical attention and they have refused to make an official complaint to the police.”

Reporter: You mentioned reluctance by the family, are there any reasons for that? Are they afraid of retaliation ?

ASP Alejandro Cowo, OC, Crimes Investigation Branch: “Well I don’t believe that they are afraid it’s just something that they said they will think about it if they want to make a report or not.”

Reporter: Is police looking at the possibility of there being retaliation for this shooting and what are you guys going to do to mitigate this ?

ASP Alejandro Cowo, OC, Crimes Investigation Branch: “I know that the suspects from last night’s shooting they are being sought by police and Mr.Williams who was in the area he managed to speak to the other party, the victims where he had a long dialogue with them and through their mediation and they agreed to certain things.”

ASP Cowo says the police have the names of the suspects.
