Miss Earth Belize Crowned, Focused on Environmental Advocacy

The twenty-third Miss Earth Pageant is set to be held in Vietnam in December and Belize will be sending newly crowned Miss Earth Belize, Reyna Cho. Reyna was officially crowned last night at Recinos Wine House in San Ignacio by outgoing Miss Earth Belize Simone Sleeuw. At the ceremony, Sleeuw shared her well wishes for Cho and encouraged her to use the experience to learn all that she can. Introducing herself and the new Miss Earth Belize, Cho explained how she intends to use the platform to further the work of environmental promotion.

“My hopes for Miss Reina Cho* the new Miss Earth 2023 is that she not only think about this title as she’s going to Vietnam and having this experience but also just about the whole entire journey itself, about learning how to do the basics of pageantry to then meeting the people, learing about the culture and just having the entire experience you know ? Going international taking our country international and best regards to her.”

Reina Cho, Miss Earth 2023: “My name is Reina Cho, I am 21 years old and I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Belize. My platform is biodiversity conservation and with that platform I hope to be able to work with many many other NGOs some I’ve worked with before and some that are very new to me not only from my district Cayo but all across the country and being the new Miss Earth Belize title holder I hope to be able to do more within my country to help with wildlife especially.”

Shirlene Neal, Assistant Coordinator on the Miss Earth Belize Committee, called on the public to offer whatever support they can to Cho as she prepares to represent the country internationally.

Shirlene Neal, Assistant Coordinator, Miss Earth Belize Committee: “She will be representing Belize in Vietnam for Miss Earth 2023 and we encourage the public to support her in whatever way you can just you could reach out to Town Council if you’d like to do monetary donations for her because she’ll be traveling from the 27th of November up to the 16th of December so it’s almost a month in Vietnam and she definitely needs the support of Belizeans. So thank you once again and we root for Miss Reina and we know she will definitely bring back the crown to Belize.”

The Miss Earth Pageant was established in 2001 in the Philippines as a means of using pageantry to promote environmental preservation. It ranks among the four largest beauty pageants in the world and was established with the slogan “Beauties for a Cause.” The upcoming pageant in December will mark the second time the event is being held in Vietnam. Back in 2021, Destiny Wagner won the title of Miss Earth, making her the first Belizean woman to ever win an international beauty pageant. Wagner was also present at Cho’s crowning last night.
