Missing Orange Walk teen found stabbed to death
Family and friends of Josh Ku are planning his funeral tonight after his body was found earlier today. The teenager was murdered, and tonight, while Police have suspects in custody, the family wants to know what happened. Reporter Vejea Alvarez has the story.
Vejea Alvarez, Love News: The worst nightmare of one family in Northern Belize turned into reality this afternoon when their missing loved one turned up dead. Just before 1 o’clock, the body of 18-year-old Joshua Ku was found in a bushy area off the Philip Goldson Highway in the Rhaburn’s Ridge Village. Ku had been stabbed to death and dumped fifteen miles from where he was last seen. His mother, Nadia, says he vanished after leaving an Orange Walk nightclub with a group of friends around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Nadia Ku, Mother of Deceased: “Like I would always advise Josh and tell him to please not to go out and he was like “No mommy I’m not going out.” and then I came out from work like 5:30 I saw him pass by. He shouted at me and he as with his friends. So then afterwards in the night they didn’t message me, I didn’t message him, he didn’t say he was going out, he didn’t say anything because I would have told him “No, don’t go out.” but he went to Hi 5.”
Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Ku’s family says their concerns grew tremendously after investigators learned Ku had left the nightclub with someone, whom he previously had issues with. And according to his mother, the person confessed to killing him.
Nadia Ku, Mother of Deceased: “Officer in charge called me about four in the morning and he said that the person confessed and that he has him in the vehicle there and his own phone with evidence stating what he did to my son and he told me that I do not have hopes in finding my son alive.”
Vejea Alvarez, Love News: But why was Ku killed? Investigators are clueless as to why someone would have wanted him dead. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says several persons have been detained and shared key pieces of information with the police.
Hilberto Romero, Assistant Commissioner of Police: “Yes there are several persons detained for this investigation.”
Reporter: Do police have a motive behind this murder ?
Hilberto Romero, Assistant Commissioner of Police: “Not at this time. All we have is that he was with these persons and he got into a car and left with them from the night club. We have several persons that were interviewed and that is what led to the body being found.”
Vejea Alvarez, Love News: For Ku’s family, his death is not only a blow to their hearts but a tragedy that has left them with more questions than answers.
Nadia Ku, Mother of Deceased: “My son did not deserve to be taken away like this and I hope that just is made for my little boy, that’s all I’m asking.”
