MOFA and UN Launch Projects for Energy and WASH in Rural Belize

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Belize, in partnership with the United Nations, has launched two projects to improve the lives of rural communities. (MOFA UN) The first project, “Deepening Access via Rural Electrification (DARE),” is a 1 million USD initiative funded by the IBSA Fund, a partnership between India, Brazil, and South Africa, and implemented by UNDP. It aims to bring reliable energy to underserved areas, supporting Belize’s National Energy Policy (2023-2040) and its transition to sustainable energy. The second project, funded by the Joint SDG Fund with a budget of 250,000 USD, focuses on using solar energy and improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) systems in vulnerable communities in Southern Belize. Implemented by UNDP and UNICEF, this initiative promotes clean energy and better living conditions. Both projects emphasize inclusivity by involving women and youth and aim to create sustainable, resilient communities.
