Earlier this week, there were reports of two doctors on contract being terminated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Yesterday, we sought confirmation from the Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero, who told us that he is unaware of any contract terminations. He also explained that it would not be a decision for the ministry to make.
Dr.Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services: “There’s clauses in the contract that would protect usually the employees so you cannot terminate him unless you have gone through the process and if you didn’t go through the process then you have to compensate the doctors. So I don’t know that contracts are being terminated I know that some contracts are not necessarily going to be renewed and that has been a result of either mutual agreement or for some reason or another an explanation as to why those are not being renewed but I don’t know that any contract is being terminated. I’m aware of also a doctor that is a Nicaraguan trapped in Nicaragua she has not been able to come for two months now so in that case I know her contract is going to be terminated simply because she is not here and she can’t come and we don’t know when she’s going to be able to make it back. The Ministry of Health sits on the Karl Heusner Board, CEO is a voting member of the board of governors, I sit there as an advisory role, those would normally come up as I said for discussion and contracts are not going to just be terminated without compensating the physician that would not normally happen.”
