MOHW Approves Entry for Persons with the Taiwanese Medigen Jab

Statutory Instrument number one-forty-nine was signed into law on Friday, November 26 by Health and Wellness Minister, Michel Chebat. The SI makes provisions for the Taiwanese COVID-19 vaccine, Medigen to be approved as an entry requirement for Taiwanese entering Belize. What is interesting to note is that the Medigen vaccine is yet to be approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It has, however, been selected by WHO for international trials. In a statement, WHO said that the Medigen vaccine was chosen along with a DNA vaccine encoding the spike protein for the Solidarity Trial Vaccines platform. The platform is “designed to rapidly evaluate the efficacy and safety of promising new candidate vaccines selected by an independent vaccine prioritization advisory group composed of leading scientists and experts.
