MOHW records more than 600 new cases of COVID-19; active cases are near 2,000

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has recorded more than six hundred new cases of COVID-19!  In its first report since Monday, the Ministry says that between June 14 and 16, there were 634 new infections. With this report, active cases stand at one thousand nine hundred and eighty-five. Only one person is in the hospital and there have been no new deaths. Of the 634 new cases, 267 of them were in Belize District. A remarkable 202 of that number were in Belize City alone! Cayo was also in triple digits, racking up 137 new cases, 50 of which were in Belmopan. Stann Creek also saw 109 new cases, 56 of which were in Dangriga Town. Toledo had 45, more than half of which were in Punta Gorda while there were 42 new infections in Orange Walk District, 26 of which were in the town. Corozal had 21 and there were only 13 on San Pedro, a municipality that was once the epicenter of the pandemic. The Ministry says that an unvaccinated person is 24 times more likely to get COVID-19 compared to a completely vaccinated person while a partially vaccinated person is three times more likely to get COVID-19 compared to someone who has gotten all their shots.
