MOHW Reports Fifty Seven New Cases of COVID-19

Tonight, the Ministry of Health and Wellness reports that there were fifty-seven new cases of COVID-19. At the same time, there were thirty-eight recoveries and two hundred and seventeen people under investigation. Unfortunately, there was a single death today, taking the number of fatalities to five hundred and ninety-two. Nine people remain hospitalised including four in the ICU. Most of today’s cases were in the Belize District, which recorded 28, half of which were in Belize City. There were nine cases each in San Pedro Town and all of Cayo District. Notably, the entire north recorded only nine cases while there were another eleven in the southernmost districts. In terms of vaccinations, about one hundred and ninety-nine thousand Belizeans are fully vaccinated, representing about forty-six percent of the population. Doctor Damaris Cruz explained that there is still work to be done to get Belize at the seventy-one percent threshold.

Dr.Damaris Cruz, Ministry of Health and Wellness:We see that in total we have 199,000 persons vaccinated and unvaccinated of the target population there is 102,133 persons so we still have a great number of individuals to vaccinate and again take this opportunity to encourage everyone that hasn’t vaccinated as yet to seek the nearest vaccination sites so that they may be vaccinated. In terms of persons within the age of 12 to 17 we have approximately 24,196 persons within that age group who have received their COVID-19 vaccine and we have about 34,096 to six persons who have who are yet to be vaccinated within the age group of 12 to 17.”

Active cases stand at four hundred and forty-three, a drop of ninety-one percent, compared to this time last year.
