Four Belizeans have died within the last twenty-four hours from complications related to COVID-19. That’s according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness. In addition to the four deaths tallied between Tuesday and Wednesday, the nation recorded another eighty-six new infections and fifty-six recoveries. When those numbers balance off, the number of active cases move from three hundred seventy-seven that was reported on Monday to four hundred three this evening. Another two hundred nineteen samples are under investigation. Of the new cases tallied, Belize District accounts for fifty-three new cases including thirty-four in Belize City and five on San Pedro. Sixteen new infections were in Cayo District, nine in Stann Creek, and eight in the northen districts combined. Toledo District went without a single new infection reported. Meanwhile, close to five thousand Belizeans have gotten their shots between Monday and Tuesday. According to the Ministry, four thousand nine hundred ninety people got the jab, bringing total vaccinations to one hundred twenty-four thousand nine hundred thirty-two. Individuals who are fully vaccinated stand at forty-eight thousand one hundred forty-one, which includes those who have received both the AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines. Every Belizean, eighteen years and older can now get the jab free of cost.
