MOHW Reports thirty-five New Cases of COVID-19

The Ministry of Health has recorded thirty-five new cases of COVID-19. The good news is that there were no new deaths and one hundred and three more people have recovered from the virus. However, there are two hundred and thirty-nine people still under investigation. Of the new cases reported today, thirteen were on the mainland Belize District, which included ten in Belize City. There were also seven cases on San Pedro and another nine in Cayo District. The northern districts recorded three cases combined, as did the southern districts. Thus far, Belize has not confirmed any cases of the omicron variant of the virus but it has been confirmed in seventy-seven countries as of tonight. The WHO’s Doctor Maria Van Kerkhove (kirk-ov) outlined what experts know so far.

While this variant may cause less disease, the WHO says that the sheer number of cases could once again overwhelm unprepared health systems.
