MOHW To Crack Down on Large Gatherings at Funerals

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is planning to crack down on funeral services that in recent weeks have grown into mass gatherings with little to no enforcement. Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard spoke on the need for enforcement and how the ministry will rope in the funeral homes to join in adhering to the COVID-19 protocols.

Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness: “You know, when it comes to funerals and you all know I mean, families come together, loved ones are hurt. They have lost a loved one so it’s always a balancing act but if we still follow the protocols I mean we must be able to control these types of crowding when it comes to these types of events.”

Reporter: Sir but while we understand that persons are mourning, that large gathering may equal to more deaths. So is the ministry maybe looking to hold these funeral planners responsible or maybe meet with them to say you know what you need to try to, you know, work with the family, family members to control things?

Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness: “Well I will say this year I haven’t mentioned it to Dr. Musa who sits on the COVID medical response team but that is an item on the agenda for next Monday discussion.”
