By now it’s well known that the general elections will be on Wednesday, March 12 – the announcement came today from former Prime Minister John Briceno; we’ll tell you more on this later in our newscast. For now, we’ll tell you of the walkout that occurred today at the Belize City Magistrates’ Court. Love News has confirmed with a senior court official that there is a mold infestation issue at the courthouse on Coney Drive that has posed some health hazards to the staff. We are unclear on whether it was a full walk out, but we can tell you that the powers that be have contracted a sanitization company to address the matter. It is expected that a notice will be sent out by the court, notifying the public that all court matters are being adjourned as the courthouse will close for the remainder of this week. Currently, the government is renting the building that houses the Magistrates’ Court – a move that had to be made when Hurricane Lisa destroyed the structure on Treasury Lane. Despite the renovations being completed, it is uncertain whether the courthouse will be reinstated at its previous location.
