In our conversation with Doctor Russell Manzanero, the epidemiologist discussed the possibility that monkeypox is can reach the pandemic levels as we’ve seen with COVID-19. He explained that the standard hygiene protocols of handwashing and mask-wearing apply but he does not expect that the cases will be a high number.
Dr.Russell Manzanero, Epidemiologist, Ministry of Health and Wellness: ”We do not expect to have those high numbers but yes we need to prepare. As part of the discussions we had yesterday was whenever if we should find anyone who might be a suspected case the screening, the isolation, that would be needed for that person so at that point is what we are working at right now. So in the coming for the rest of this week this is what will happen so you would hear perhaps communication coming out on that. I can tell you though that the thing is for any individual who might be presenting with these kind of rashes and that clinical features the key point here is isolation just as with COVID. You seek your medical attention, you stay at home, you try to not interact with many individuals so that’s the scenario right now.”
