Last week, the Ministry of Health and Wellness raised concerns about the uptick in COVID-19 cases. Local transmission increased from the low single digits after the regulations were eased in April to more than 50 cases in a single day last week. Tonight, however, the concern has been raised further with 132 new cases. This comes from a batch of over 1,900 new tests and 175 people remain under investigation. The cumulative positivity rate has increased to over ten percent; however, there have been 21 new recoveries. The good news is that there have been no new deaths. With today’s report, active cases stand at 488. Of today’s new cases, 64 were in Belize District including 47 new infections here in Belize City. Cayo tallied 31 with 13 in Belmopan while San Pedro reported 20. The northernmost districts were at six combined while there were 11 cases in the entire south. Continue to follow safety measures, including handwashing, mask-wearing and social distancing to protect yourselves.
