Over seventy pounds of marijuana were confiscated last night by Police in Ladyville, Belize District. Reports are that a vehicle approached a checkpoint near the Vista del Mar entrance. Police stopped the vehicle which bore two occupants and asked the driver to pull over. The driver refused and subsequently sped off. Police Commissioner Chester Williams did not go into the details of what really transpired. Here is his account of the incident.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Yesterday evening some time around six police at the checkpoint near the Manatee Lookout on the Philip Goldson Highway intercepted a red Volkswagen car. Inside that vehicle were two individuals. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of seventy one pounds of cannabis. Those persons are in custody and are expected to be charged today for drug trafficking.”
