Mother Dies After Hit-and-Run Incident: Calls Attention to Lack of Medical Support

Glenda Estrada, the mother of a new-born who was knocked down last month, has died.  The 39-year-old woman has been hospitalized since the hit and run incident on July 9.  Doctors were able to save the baby, but the mother who was severely injured, passed away earlier today.  The victim’s husband, Nelson Pech, has been seeking help in the past few weeks to get the medical attention needed to save his wife.  He had managed to get her to Guatemala last week, but this morning he received the call he had been fearing.

Police are yet to make an arrest on this incident.  Estrada was on her way home after purchasing groceries when she was hit by a vehicle in front of the New Moon Grocery Store in Ladyville, Belize District.  Estrada’s body will be brought back to Belize for burial.
