A mother of two is recovering after she was shot three times inside her home in Santa Elena Town, Cayo District. The incident occurred last night at around seven o’clock on Carillo Puerto Avenue. 26-year-old Debbidee Clarke was combing her daughter’s hair when she heard what she thought were firecrackers. When she realized that the sounds were gunshots, she pushed her children to the ground to shield them and that was when she got injured. According to Clarke’s father-in-law, Alan Robateau, the victim was home alone with her children at the time of the shooting.
The incident was caught on surveillance footage and shows a man on a motorcycle driving by and firing multiple shots at the house. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett they are yet to confirm a motive.
ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Shortly before the report was made a male person on a motorcycle rode by and fired several shots in her house during which she was injured by some of those gunshots. At this point in time the police is investigating. We do not have a clear motive at this time however we were told and have not yet been able to confirm that a known George Street Gang figure was frequenting the home for the better part of yesterday’s date.”
Clarke was shot three times on her left arm; one just above the elbow, another just below the elbow and the third shot was to the shoulder. Police recovered nine expended shells at the scene. Clarke is in a stable condition at the San Ignacio Community Hospital.
