A teenager has left his home in Georgeville, Cayo District and his mother is fearing the worst. 17-year-old Akeem Mangar was reported missing, but the reality of the case is that the teenager has chosen to follow a friend to Belize City. The young man’s mother, Joycelyn Mangar is fearful that the person her son is with will lead him down a path of a criminal life. It is uncertain if the Police will work on the preventative aspect of this case and therefore Mangar reached out to the media hoping to save her son from a life of crime.
Joycelyn Mangar, Mother of Missing Team: “I saw him on Thursday afternoon he came home and from there a young man came on a bicycle to look for him and he went, from then I haven’t seen my son again. When I inquired with a lady who he usually goes to her house her in the village she said she hadn’t seen him either from Thursday so I got worried and I went to the police and I got to find out he left from Georgeville with the young men and one of his aunties and he’s in Belize City at their house and they refuse to send him home and he’s only seventeen. He called me yesterday and he told me that he’s working at Belmopan but I know it was a lie because he wouldn’t tell me where he is because he knows I would make them go for him. A person called and told me that he is in Belize City with that young lady and her nephew and I worry because those are bad people especially the young boy everybody knows he’s a thief and I’m afraid he’ll set up my son to go and there and on the longer run make my son end up dead or go to jail that is my biggest fear. So I really want them to find him and bring him home before something happens. I spoke to a police from Belize City and they’ll be looking out and trying to find where the young lady lives. I don’t uphold my son in the things and the friends he wants to have and that his his problem. He wants to smoke weed and drink and stay out late and I never raised that way so I don’t uphold it and I rail up to him every time and that is what he doesn’t like. He wants to be out there with them all over the place doing things that he’s not supposed to be doing and I can’t uphold it and until he is eighteen I will do what I can and make the law deal with him because he’s seventeen yet.”
Love News later learned that the teenager returned home safely.
