Mount Carmel Primary School and BTNU Benque Branch Sit Out Children’s Rally Parade

Mount Carmel Primary School and BTNU Benque Branch Sit Out Children’s Rally Parade

Today, schools country-wide went out in full force to participate in the Children’s Rally parade, except for one in the west. Despite warnings from the Ministry of Education, the teachers and students at Mount Carmel Primary School did not participate in the parade and were represented only by a group of preschoolers. The announcement was made last night via an internal memo, and followed the BTNU’s Benque branch’s decision to sit out the parade. The union’s newly elected executive voted to not participate and claimed that it was because today is Guatemala’s Independence Day. Their decision was dismissed by the Minister of Education, who stated that disciplinary action would be taken against the schools that chose to side with the union’s branch.
