Moves are Afoot to Install the First Female Leader of the Opposition

Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Faber is facing a demotion as his party has expressed a no-confidence in his leadership. Chief Whip of the United Democratic Party, Shyne Barrow, made the announcement this evening on social media, stating, quote “Patrick Faber does not enjoy the confidence of the majority of Opposition Members of the House. Tracy Panton enjoys the confidence of the majority of Opposition Members of the House.” End of quote. An emergency meeting of the UDP’s National Party Council is being convened this week, after which it is expected that a letter will be sent to the Governor-General. If Faber is removed, he would go down in Belize’s history as having served the shortest term in the office of Leader of the Opposition. Meanwhile, Albert’s Area Representative, Tracy Panton is looking to be Belize’s first female Leader of the Opposition. Having been elected less than one year ago to the seat of opposition leader, Faber’s political career has been tainted with several instances of domestic disturbances. The most recent being a viral video in which he behaved in a fit of anger towards the mother of his youngest child. Despite multiple requests from our newsroom to Faber for an interview, our requests have been ignored. We will keep following this story as it develops.
