Hunters in the Belmopan area stumbled across a badly decomposed body on the outskirts of the city. The body was found in a shallow grave just off mile forty-four on the Hummingbird Highway. According to the Police Commissioner Chester Williams the body has been identified as that of a man who was reported missing.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “This morning some time around 9am thereabout a group of hunters came across a shallow grave somewhere around mile 44 and 43 on the Hummingbird Highway. Police visited the area, they dug the shallow grave and they came across a body of a male Hispanic person. The body has been identified but I am not sure if the next of kin has been informed so I’m not going to reveal the name at this time but police are in direct communication with the family members and are investigating that matter.”
Due to the advanced state of decomposition a postmortem was done onsite. And while that may be a dead end case there is another similar case that the Police are investigating. This morning a body was found floating in the Macal River. We were able to get some preliminary details from the Commissioner.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Police did find a body this morning again in the Macal River in the Benque area. We believe that the body came across from the Guatemalan side and was thrown into the river and so we are working with our Guatemalan counterpart to see if we’ll be able to gather some information on that particular incident.”
Commissioner Williams noted that further details of both discoveries will be released to the media in tomorrow’s police report.
