Municipal Elections Loom as Parties Gear Up for Campaign Season

Municipal Elections are scheduled for March 2024, but political parties are hard at work behind the scenes gearing up. Candidates are submitting applications; parties are deciding on convention dates and incumbent councils are pushing to wrap up projects heading into the elections. Corozal Mayor Rigoberto Vellos spoke with Love News today, about the legacy of his council and why he feels that Corozal residents will give him and his team another term. Vellos said that it boils down to hard work and his council has the projects to prove they have been working. He stressed that with their track record he doesn’t feel the need to take the mayoral candidacy to convention, but the decision ultimately rests with the people’s United Party.

Vellos is a two-term Mayor, who won his first election back in 2018.
