Murder in Dangriga, Frank Garcia Fatally Shot in his House

Police in Dangriga are investigating a murder that occurred early this morning. The victim has been identified as Frank Garcia. Reports indicate that he was found in a house in the Rivas Estate area of town. Neighbors say they heard the sound of gunshots before the discovery was made. Correspondent Harry Arzu has more details. 

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: Dangriga Police are investigating the shooting death of 28-year-old Frank Garcia that occurred here in the Rivas Estate area of this municipality sometime around six thirty this morning. Residents in the neighborhood say that they were alerted by the sound of gunshots being fired in the vicinity. So several of them came out to do their own investigation. As a result the news spread like wild fire that Garcia was the victim of the shooting incident. Reports here say that Garcia was inside his house when someone came knocking on his door and fired several gunshots in his direction. As a result Garcia sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body and one to his head. He was found lying face down in a pool of blood on the floor. Love News spoke with these young men who are asking for calm in the neighborhood.

Resident: “We need some help. We need some help right now you know ? We need somebody to just guide us and show us the ropes for us to get into our business. We are trying to open a small fishing business my and the boys right here trying to make something happen for us to try to get off the streets and look for a better life. But then this morning, what happened this morning we didn’t like it because it was on our ends and we don’t tolerate that on our ends.”

Resident: “This morning we got up to some shooting nowhere far from around us a couple houses away. We don’t like the idea about it because these are our areas and it gives the area a bad name but that is not us it’s people that come from other places to do things in our area. We won’t mess up our area in that kind of way.”

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: You know the victim ? 

Resident: “Yeah we hear about him we don’t really know him like that.”

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: You all heard the gunshots this morning ? 

Resident: “Yeah we heard the gunshots and that actually woke us up.”

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: I hear you heard about ten to eleven gunshots about here this morning ? 

Resident: “Well probably just about six to seven gunshots you know.”

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: After the scene was processed Garcia’s body was taken to the Southern Regional Hospital morgue and soon after the crowd dispersed.

Investigators are searching for two suspects they believe are involved in Garcia’s murder. Police Press Officer, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, says that while the police are yet to establish a motive, they have apparently ascertained the identity of this morning’s gunman.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Department, Press Officer: “We are trying to locate two men that we believe are responsible for the death of Mr.Frank Garcia. This happened in the Rivas estate area in Dangriga. So far we have searched several premises, the police believe that they know exactly who they’re looking for and hopefully we would be able to give you an update.”

Reporter: Any motive has been established at this time ?

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Department, Press Officer:  “No definitive one but we are following several avenues and hopefully I will be able to tell you soon. For now we know that we’re looking for two suspects the police believe they know who.”
