Murder/Suicide Tragedy Prompts Calls for Awareness on Relationship Red Flags

As the City of Belmopan is still processing yesterday’s callous onslaught, some in Belize City are also coming to terms with the weekend’s murder/suicide that saw the killing of the City Administrator, Stephanie Lindo-Garbutt.  It is a tragedy that Special Envoy Briceno says requires a reminder to men women to stop ignoring red flags.

Rossana Briceno, Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children:“That is a soft spot. That is a very emotional situation for everybody in Belize. I feel that now more than ever we need to be our sister’s keepers, our brother’s keepers because we don’t know what we’re going through, what our sisters are going through, our coworkers are going through. So I think this situation, this murder, this suicide is an awakening for us to realize we need to be more observant. We need to listen to our coworkers. There are so many red flags to look for. Many, many times we don’t ask for help directly but if we know of the red flags I know that we can save more lives. So it’s a matter now of being our sister’s keepers much more than ever.”
