Residents of the Gungulung area of Belize City behind St. Martin De Porres woke up to the sounds of gunshots this morning. About 6:45 a.m. the CET site section of the Gungulung was reeling from the latest spate of gun violence. A shooter or shooter went over the London bridge or pallets to find their marks, two Dangriga residents who moved into a house at the swampy end of the mangroves. When the police arrived at 7:00 a.m., they found the body of Jordan Lorenzo on a mattress in the living room with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Nearby they found 17 year old Rakeem Cruz with an assortment of gunshot wounds to the right, upper shoulder. Cruz was taken by ambulance to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was admitted in a stable condition. Love News spoke to an area resident who says part of the problem is that there are very few street lights and that helps create an atmosphere of fear.
In late January, Michael Gladden was shot on a London bridge off Holy Emmanuel Street in the Gungulung area of Belize City. Gladden’s home and the area where he was shot was also a poorly lit area near this morning’s murder incident.
