This week, the National AIDS Commission completed the last of a special set of stakeholder meetings. The HIV/AIDS Workplace Policy Education Session was held in the Stann Creek district on April 8 and 9, with previous sessions held in the Belize and Cayo districts. The initiative, done in collaboration with the Labour Department, gathered various businesses to discuss pertinent matters relating to the development of a company’s HIV Workplace Policy. This includes addressing issues like safe spaces, confidentiality, and respecting a person’s right to work. Executive Director of the NAC, Enrique Romero, explained that the initiatives targeted the three districts where HIV infections are at their highest.
Romero says that stigma and discrimination remain a major challenge in workplaces for persons living with HIV/AIDS, making the polices even more critical.
